Santiago Lockers at SCL
Posted: Mon December 8, 2008 10:53 PM UTC
Are there lockers to store luggage for a few hours at the international terminal at SCL? And, if so, how big are they?
Thanks,
HB

PS: I´ll be there on Wed the 10th, so if you know, please post by noon Argentina time. ( 7am PST, 10am EST )

Not lockers but a room. You look for Custodia on the arrivals level.

You are American. This is your first visit. You have just a few hours at SCL.

Do you realize that Chile charges a one time $135 (more or less) entrance stamp fee to Americans (and citizens of a few other countries.)? It is good for 5 years, but it might be a lot to pay for just a few hour visit.

Thanks, Huentetu. I should have no trouble finding the storage room.

Thanks, Melosh. Actually, we are staying in Santiago for three days. The problem is that our plane leaves at 11:50 pm, so we have to find someplace for the luggage for about 10 hours after hotel check out.

I´ve heard rumor of the 135 dollar entry fee, but we did not pay it. We went from El Calafate to Torres Del Paine and back by car, then Ush to Santiago via Punta Arenas by plane. Nobody asked us for it, nor did they ask anyone else for it that we saw ( and we spent lots of time in lines waiting for petty bureaucrats to shuffle papers and stamp other papers. )
Perhaps you meant Brazil? We did have to pay 130 to get in there.

The fee is apparently not charged at the border, only at the airport.

You should ask your hotel or hostel to keep your bags. It is very rare for there to be charge for this service.

The fee is not charged at land borders. It is only charged at the international airport in Santiago. You pay at desks before passport control and there are signs. The cost is US131 per person, good for the life of the passport. You can pay cash or by credit card. Argentina is implementing the same charge from January 1st but with no details given.
