I cannot seem to find any flights out of Siem Reap (I am leaving in the first week of February 2009). It seems Siem Reap airlines has suspended flights?

Should I travel to Phnom Penh first? How do I get there best from Siem Reap?

Check out www.airasia.com. I was just online and could still find flights out of Siem Reap to Kuala Lumpur for early February.

As for Phnom Penh, I believe there's a bus that gets to Siem Reap and it takes about 6 hours.

Deng is spot on. You can go to/from KL via Air Asia. You can also get to/from Hanoi or HCMC via Vietnam Airlines. Yeah the Mekong Express bus will take you to/from S'Reap/P'Penh via road. Just out of interest, in Feb 09 I am travelling to Siem Reap via KL and P'Penh and will be bussing it to S'Reap. I intend to fly back to KL from S'Reap via Air Asia so I have the exact route mentioned.

BTW, Siem reap airways has been grounded due to safety procedure concerns. Who knows, but the issues may resolved by FEb 09.

You do not say where you want to fly to. AirAsia fly out of Siem Reap to KL and Jetstar airways fly to Singapore.

Grounded for safety concerns? Really?

the european union goes though the safety procedures at every airline in the world once a year and publiches a list of airlines that are not allowed to serve airports in the european union because of their lack of safety and siem reap airways made it on to that list in 2008 and it is a bit of a death sentence for an airline that mostly flies western tourists around since no major travel agency will use an airline from that list.

So that has nothing to do with the airport then. Bangkok airways, Thai airways, Vietnam airways all still fly in and out then right?

yes the airport is still working and has no problem with safety.
i was there myself in early december and the flights were going out there fine (except for the ones to bangkok, but that was a whole other matter in early december)
