Bratislava Planning my first trip to Bratislava in March 2009
Posted: Mon December 8, 2008 03:20 AM UTC
Hi,

I am new to the site and was hoping to get some general information of an upcoming trip I am planning.

I will be going to Prague towards the end of March and from there I will be going to Budapest. I was hoping to stay for a night or two in Bratislava. I am American and have never been in the area before. I am interested in finding friendly locals and fun nightspots for people around my age (I am 31)

Could you please direct me to some popular spots and give me the names of nearby hotels? Also, how long of a train ride is the city from Prague and Budapest?

Thank you all so much in advance for your help!

I've not yet been to Bratislava, but the VT Bratislava pages are full of info/pics/tips on things to see and do (and hotels) written by VT locals and visitors. Use the searchbox top right of this page to find them.

I have been to both Prague and Budapest:both fascinating cities. Prague is 4-5 hours by train from Bratislava, Budapest around 3.

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

will give you train times and details (search for 'Praha').

Just got back from a weekend in Bratislava and to be honest 2 nights is probably enough. There is not a great deal to see or do compared with other cities. However, the advantage is that as it's not big, getting around the old town is very easy. Everything is within walking distance.

I stayed in an apartment, located on 29 Augusta, for two nights - check out www.bratislava-apartments.com as they worked out cheaper and more convenient than a hotel. A couple of the bars I went to, 1Slovak and Kristien were quite busy on Saturday although on Sunday, the bars were pretty quiet. If I went again I would tie it in with a trip to Vienna as it was only an hour 15 minutes away by boat.
