San Francisco Non- religious Christmas Day in San Francisco?
Posted: Thu December 4, 2008 01:53 AM UTC
Any suggestions for something to do on Christmas Day in San Francisco for non-observer? Would anything be open?

Also, what are some suggestions for moderate to inexpensive restaurants? It is my daughter who is visiting there, and I would love to get her some gift cards to use on her vacation.

Thanks for your help!

It's usually rather quiet in SF on Christmas Day, with fewer crowds and less traffic than normal, but there will be things going on in Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf. Also, it should be easier to catch a ride on the cable cars! Personally, I'd spend some time strolling the neighborhoods (the "Hidden Cities" of San Francisco).

As for restaurants that will be open - check on OpenTable.com. You can find out what's open and also a price range.

Hope this helps and your daughter has a wonderful time! San Francisco is my all-time favorite city!

I think that Chinatown is your best bet. It should still be fairly active with almost everything, including restaurants, still open.

Please don't get your daughter gift cards for chain restaurants. We have hundreds of wonderful unique independent restaurants here in San Francisco. Please encourage her to patronize some of them. Give her a handful of cash instead.

There are always restaurants open in Chinatown on Christmas. If it's open, try Yuet Lee. It's inexpensive and wonderful.
