Key West Christmas in Key West

Traveling to Key West 12/24/08 for 4 days with husband, parents and 2 teenagers. What can you recommend to do during this time to keep us in the Christmas spirit. Anything unique to a Key West Christmas? Also looking for Christmas Eve services for a unique or quaint experience.
Thanks so much from a polar bear family looking to bask in the sunshine for the holidays

Hi,

As luck would have it, my family and I will also be in Key West around X-mas time. the dates are still not set, since we will be in florida for 17 days.

Anyway, I have been to Key West many times, but am not aware of any special events taking places, but knowing Key West people, I'm sure something will be going on.

I have a question; do you already have your hotel booked?

We are traveling with my parents, my dad being retired navy and thus we are staying on the base in a rental unit.

I going to ask you how much the hotels were going for. We were there some years ago during a holiday, I cant remember which one, but the hotels were extremely expensive, totally crazy. We ended up driving out of the keys to get a hotel we could afford.

The rental units on base are pretty descent, you'll like them (I'm military stationed in KW). Make sure you go to ITT located on Sigsbee (a section of the base in middle of town) to get military discount tickets on attractions.

Nothing really "Christmasy" going on, they seem to be doing all that stuff early. The lighted boat parade is this Saturday the 15th, and the lighted trolley tour is sometime after that. They just did a Christmas parade not too long ago.

But you'll still have a good time! People really decorate with the Christmas lights around here - I always get a kick out of the palm trees being decorated like Christmas trees. So make sure you take a drive at night.
