Hi All

Going to Gambia for x mas
Is it necessary to get "tourist guides" as looking at some of the forums they seem to harrass you unless you had one.

Is it preatty safe to waqlk around in evening and generally.
Also do they have draught beer?

Thanks in advance

No, you don't have to have a guide but it helps to keep the bumsters away.
The cost of your guide for the day is so small, he will also be very helpful in taking you places you want to see and hopefully become a good friend.

The Gambia does have it's own brewery.

Walking round should not be a big problem as long as you take the usual precautions you would anywhere else.

Relax and enjoy your holiday, The Gambians are a very friendly people, the bumsters are only trying to make a living as does everyone else in The Gambia.

Hi there im 62 and been going for 6 years now and a polite no thank you will do but insist on the no thank you.The beach is quit nice very lovely in the day not busy, the water is great for swimming if you are a good swimmer if not just sit in the water and let it rush to your body. The beach is kept clear of bum boys by bike controls on the beach so you will not be hasselled. go to a juice bar on the beach called the funky banana a chap called Ansu runs it, his juices are something to die for and he is in on the beach in front of Holiday beach hotel. Ladies sell fruit on the beach fresh and delectable try some you will not be disapointed. local drinks not bad good resterant is JOJO;s great food, dont walk on the beach after 6 as it is pitch black haggle with taxis from kotu to kololi is aout 125 dont pay more yellow cabs are cheaper. they do have draught beer and it is great.enjoy your holiday one other thing no need to take exensive clothes or shoes it is africa after all and you might want to give some away. if you have a chance go to alocal school take some pencils with you they will love you forever. have a good holiday and maybe you will goagain.

having been to The Gambia many times, I can recommend a very good friend who is working as a tour gide. His name is Lamin "Benz", fon (00220) 99 585 23

There's no need to be afraid of the "Bumsters". They are people who try to make a living in a country with a huge rate of unemployment. In the beginning I was reluctant with them, in the end I had great times chatting and drinking attaya. If you need any advice, you can send me an e-mail. My husband is Gambian. ingamaria@web.de

They brew Julbrew (lager) and Guiness. The Guiness does taste different, but its still ok. Local bars are cheap and once inside there is no hassles as the owners would not allow you to be hassled.

Julbrew won some awrds a few years back. Its ok. They serve it cold so its even better!
