T.G.I Fridays? Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 01:49 PM UTC
Some of you will think Iīm grazy by asking this, but is there Fridays at Bremen? We donīt like German foods(sorry locals..),and for some reason we love those potatoskins in Fridays. When we see their restaurant,we must get in.There isnīt one in Finland-othervice we wouldnīt visit it at our trips. In fact,I donīt think any restaurant serves potatoskins in Finland.First time we heard about them,we thought that isnīt that pigs food?Anyway.I tried to google it,but thereīs something wrong-it allways goes to American Fridays website, and if I will foun European,it will say"page cannot be found".Maybe it is a problem, that goes away, but we are leaving in 36hours,so maybe I wont have time to try enough.

I've checked the site and it seems there are no Friday's in Bremen (nor in all Germany). Have to say I've seen many of those restaurants in Ireland, but never in Germany.

Re: T.G.I Fridays? Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 02:44 PM UTC
O.k.Thanks.I thought that Finland is only country in Europe without Fridays. We have been in Fridays in Sweden,Estonia,Latvia,Prague,Budapest,Spain and so on.I thought,we had been in Germany also, but I can remember it wrong, because I canīt remeber witch town.
At Köln (Cologne?) we found some another place quite similar. But I donīt remeber the name.
But itīs not so big deal(I just thought, that Iīd like no go IF there is),I found here in Vt many Italian and texmex-places.Maybe all German isnīt so greasy meat(not fried, greasy with fat in beef or so) or sausages also, but thatīs what we have had there.

Erm, dumb question - what is Fridays? A fast-food chain? I've never heard of it...

I wa stold on a visit to American when taken by my nephew it stands for Thank God It's Friday. One opened in Cardiff but I think it has closed down.
I must say I have always had very good food in Germany and particularly good sausages.

Same good experience with german food: I think it gets an iniquitous fame abroad. And if you want, can eat faboulous vegetables or salads pratically everywhere.

Re: T.G.I Fridays? Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 09:43 PM UTC
Thats why I said, this is stupid question.Everyone thinks, that you should eat local foods everywhere, and thatīs why I was ashamed to ask this.I really donīt mean to be rude(please-no hard feelings!),but we just havenīt liked food at local places. We hate sausages(we are strange in Finland,too-sausages are very popular here! And German sausages also-but sorry,I donīt like any meat witch is minced,I canīt help it-I donīt even eat hamburgers). We eat mostly chicken or fish or when we go out,we might eat filet-staeks.We donīt like pork either.Salads we eat very much-because they are healthy, but at holliday we can eat more meat, but not greasy meat, and if beef-it should be a good steak. And because we love hot and spicy,we have had very "not-spicy"foods in German every time,so we decided not to try to like them anymore. But donīt worry Germans,we like your country anyway! We donīt travel to eat!Allthough itīs nice to have good food.Tell you the truth-we donīt eat so much Finnish food either.Very rarely only-and I add "too much spices"there, too,if you would ask for exemple my mother in law ;)
By the way,we like tasting different beers, and German beers are good!Better than Finnish.

And to Kathryn:Itīs a steakhouse with also texmex-food.they have good steaks and those texmex-plates.There is something we donīt like in there also:We donīt like"over-friendly"-service-all the time someone asking, are we o.k.(They make their employyes to do it),and they donīt usually have local beers-only American-witch are rather tasteless, when we prefer dark ones.(so we drink water there)

Turska - Exactly - I know what you mean - your meal arrives; just as you start to pick up your knife and fork someone else arrives to ask "Everything alright with your meal?"
Then disappears. By the time you have discovered the meat is tough, the vegetables over-cooked and the sauce over salty the bill arrives with "Enjoy your evening, Come back soon"!

Thanks Turska for the info - really, I had no idea.
As for food, in Bremen you are close to the sea, so fish is worth looking for. German restaurants also serve chicken, turkey, beef, veal, game. At least in the cities you'll also get vegetarian dishes everywhere. German food is not sausages only.

Re: T.G.I Fridays? Posted: Thu November 27, 2008 12:25 AM UTC
Since Friday is the last day of the work week in the USA, the common expression is TGIF meaning Thank God it's Friday! to express joy that the workweek is nearly over. TGI Friday's is a restaurant-bar where you can go for Happy Hour after work on Friday. It's just another chain restaurant. They are pretty loud so if you enjoy a quiet meal, it's not a good place to go. Food is okay but not great.
Regarding German food, we tend to eat vegetarian, chicken, fish and other fowl and had no trouble finding it in Germany. My husband loves sausages but I can't stand them so he has the occasional sausage. We've never had trouble finding good food in Germany, especially near a lake or ocean where the fish is excellent. I'm not sure we've ever been in a German restaurant that didn't offer some sort of chicken or wildfowl.
Good luck finding something you like. I'm with you though; we don't travel to eat. I'll try almost anything but if we miss a meal, it's no big deal. I'd rather sightsee.

Re: T.G.I Fridays? Posted: Thu November 27, 2008 11:16 AM UTC
This has got lots of thoughts here!
We donīt really want to eat vegetarian food.We allways eat so healthy normally, that we allmost want to eat unhealty at hollidays ;) So we usually try to find places with good steaks,chicken-filet "stakes"(iīm not sure is the term used in English),creamy pastas and so on.When I say that we donīt like greasy meat,I mean meat with real fat you can see with your eye.
But eating isnīt the mainthing-like we said :) We happen to like some foods on Fridays(I think they are little different than here at steakhouses),and we love those unhealthy potatoskins-and they are hard to make yourself. We have sometimes even went to Fridays just to eat them...But I will never go to Mc Donalds or something like that in hollidays-or only if everything else is closed, like once when we were "on the road",travelling in Europe somewhere.
We will leave in morning-this time tomorrow we are just landing. And mostly I wait to go to German Christmas-market!I love those!By the way-are the shops open at sunday? We might buy some gifts to Christmas, and I thought itīs good to know, should we do it at friday and saturday.Market is open at sunday. Here in Finland shops are open every day at Christmas-season,but three years ago at Köln they werenīt.

Shops are not open on Sunday except tourist souvenir shops and shops in railway stations and airports.
Have a great trip!!! Did you book that guided tour at Beck's? (Just curious because we discussed it a while ago.)

Good to know.We were so surpiced to see last time, that they werenīt open.Must try to go in friday and saturday then.
We booked the tour, and itīs at 14.00,so at "bad"time for possible shopping.Or it debends how late the shops are open.I want go to buy delicious teas from chocolade-shop,witch my client told me about. And see other"small shops",and C&A,because I have found "work-clothes" there. We donīt have it here.
The Beckīs tour can be cancelled,if there is not enough people coming,I canīt read my mail at friday,so I donīt know how we will know.Maybe we have to call there. My client also told about little brewery-pub at centre.
