No tickets are sold in DB trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and trams. There are ticket machines at all stops.
Strictly seen there are no "tram tickets". You buy tickets for one or more local public transport zones (e.g. the city of Nuremberg). Such a ticket covers all types of local public transport (DB regional trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams and buses) and you can use any combination to reach your destination. More:
