Gold Coast Gold coast for christmas??
Posted: Thu November 20, 2008 04:26 PM UTC
Hi

I'm going to be spending christmas at Gold Coast probably, I'm a backpacker from England, and was wondering which is the better option to stay - Coolangatta or Surfer's Paradise or not on Surfer's itself but Southport. I don't want somewhere that is quiet as I will be away from all of my family for the first time ever - can anyone recommend anywhere? I'm also on a pretty tight budget so if anyone can recommend any other cheaper areas for the festive period I am open to suggestion...

Thanks

Cat xx

Surfers is always busy and fun at Christmas but Coolangatta is now getting a good rap and has improved with lots of things to do. Surfers however has a lot more going for it with nightclubs and nice hangouts.

Staying at Coolangatta is generally cheaper than Surfers but then I think Southport will be a bit cheaper too and it's a short bus ride into Surfers.

I live near Coolangatta but think I would recommend the north end for you - plenty of backpackers, great beaches and it will be buzzing. You are also closer to all of the theme parks if you want to go to any of them.

Hi Cat,

Surfers Paradise is the most happening place of GC..and offcousre accomodation cost is much higher than other suburbs..Collangata is bit away from Surfers but u can try Southport which has an easy access to Sufers 24 hrs..u can find economical backpackers hostels in South port..Dec 3rd week till the end of Jan is most busiest and high peak period.
if interested u can find work easily during Christamas week specially in Theme parks where you an work during day time and at your own in evening.
Chers
