Hobart help with itinerary

Hi guys. I have been lurking the net, and found flights to Hobart for $22.00.
I have always wanted to go to Tasmania, but have no idea where to start with our itinerary. We are gone for 7 nights next May...Any help...we will hire a car.

YOu can do lots in Tas in 7 days. My favourites would be Port Arthur , and Cradle Mountain. The Tahune air walk is also good. Tassie is just a great place to meander around in and see what you find, lots of nice B&Bs, wineries, food places, great scenery.

I would take a trip around to the Tahune Forest Airwalk, which is not that far away from Hobart located in the Huon River Valley some lovely little towns to stop at on the way.

You'll have no problems finding things to do. Tassie is a top spot. You can do a comparison between SA wines and Tasmanian stuff. There you go, that's five days covered!!
I've an itinerary of a 2 weeks road trip on St.of Tas page.:http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/ae2c2/c4b/.
Not suggesting you try half of that in one week. One highlight for me was the visit to Moorilla Estate. Outstanding antiquities museum. ...probably even better these days after building project. Can be reached via a boat trip from Hobart which we will do next time we visit. have fun de p.

yes I agree ..so much you can see in seven days..the Tahune air walk is definately worth the visit also while in Hobart.Constitution Dock..(great seafood.)Salamanca markets..The weather is warmer so a trip to the top of Mount Wellington overlooking Hobart.Hobart is full of OZ history and great early colonial architecture..Port Arthur is a must .There are many wonderful Nat.Parks..try and fit in Wineglass Bay..a stunner...Roads are good...not a lot of traffic..easy to get around...just so many wonderful little towns ..I particularly liked the north coast and n/east..on the way north visit Richmond on the way ..Ross..of course there is Launceston and Devenport..across the top coast...(take your pick.).go west to Stanley..see Burnie ,Penguin Boat, Harbour..(marvellous) and /or east to St Helens.my favourite place in Tassie...see the Bay of Fires along this coast..(see my page on this beauty)..Lonely Planet I am told is making it a #1.. its an absolute gem...once again great seafood here..and they say the cleanest air in the world...and down the east coast through many lovely towns (providing you are returning from Hobart)..I know it sounds a lot but easy to do this in a week..I used cabins in great camping areas..as I was driving..cheap and clean...Tassie is set up for travellers..Ive been down three times..."Tassie" is Aussie's best kept secret..SHHHHH.its bloody marvellous...tourist info will give you everything you want to know in Hobart..but would get a good roadmap for planning and use..Have a great trip and enjoy Tassie..Denny..

You've reminded me that last night's episode of ABC's (not the child care mob) episode of The Cook & the Chef had a French chef, Christine Huderset cooking bush tucker. If you are into food, a "bush tucker" experience may be worthwhile chasing up. Tassie provides much of the ingredients for bush tucker served on the mainland. (I did a quick google but could not find where Christine cooks). regards, p.

Go to www.parks.tas.gov.au and ask them to send you "60 Great Short Walks" brochure.
It's a great guide to seeing some of the beautiful Tasmanian wilderness.
I'm going in June!

Hi again...I forgot to say ..when I was travelling there last time when I visited the Narawntapu National Park near Devenport..I found that it's much cheaper to buy a National Park card that lets you into the many National parks there...as I went into quite a few..

Hello Deb,
You will love Tassie. You will see so much in the time you have. One of my most favourite places was Strahn???spelling is up the **** I think. We had a wonderful cruise along the river there and visited areas where the poor bloody convicts had to survive. Also the bestest ever Grayfish and oyster shooters:)
The coast of Tassie land is just wonderful.

One thing I found is that Tassie's population is so very friendly and helpful.
That is one thing I will always remember about this part of Aus.

After Hobart and environs, there's no way you can see too much more...but you'll be back (good price airfares) so don't try. Check the map and work out some distances and driving times for comfortable couple of days on East coast perhaps.

Deb, remember Tassie is small:) We had 5 days and we flew into Hobart and then did the trip around the coast. Coming back down the centre to catch the plane home.Well something like that!!! lol
You will be able to just drive around and stay where you feel like it that night. In May it ain't going to be that busy. There are lots of motels/hotels and B&B's.
You and Bob will be able to see heaps...

You are driving, aren't you? Buy 1 or 2 or 3 or all CDs from Cary Lewincamp if you like solo guitar, and play it in your car while you are on the road. I found him in Salamanca Market years ago. You can buy on-line via www.cary.com.au or meet him personally (but not sure he's still going there). I'm not getting any returns by saying this :-D I just love his music, it's very soothing and everytime I play the music at home, it reminds me about my holiday in Tasmania.
