Belarus Cheap travel to Scotland -> Belarus, Vitebsk
Posted: Tue November 18, 2008 10:20 PM UTC
Hi

My family plan to visit relatives in Vitebsk summer 2009 and i'm looking for the cheapest route. We've used Belavia in the past and although convenient, we'd like to do it on the cheap. Riga looks the closest, but i don't see any trains from Riga to Vitebsk? It's possible we can get picked up if we can get a bus over the border, i think it's roughly 300 miles. Any suggestions with Buses or trains, part or full journey would be great. I was looking at Poland -> Minsk -> Vitebsk, but it looks like a long journey.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About Riga - trains aren't so popular and common for Baltic countries as as they used to be, so if you will arrive in Riga you will probably have to take bus - http://www.autoosta.lv/eticket/races.jsp;jsessionid=A98D98020762F99D50042AB30CD65484

You can as well travel via Lithuania, trains and buses from Vilnius to Misnk are quite frequent and inexpensive.

Poland is good, because you can get some really good prices for the flight from Scotland (low cost market there is much bigger than in Riga or Lithuania). Train ride from Warsaw to Minsk will take 9-11 hours (costs roughly 100euro r/t)
