Brisbane Transfer from International to Domestic Airport
Posted: Mon November 17, 2008 09:41 PM UTC
I am arriving at Brisbane International Airport (BNE?) and have to take a Virgin Blue flight to Hamilton Island at the domestic airport (CBD?)
What is the quickest way to get from the international to the domestic airport?
I have 2.5 hours between flights, can I make it?

It's one stop on the train line. You should have enough time. I guess taxi would be the other option.

It's not far. 3 kms by road - less on the train.Train trip about 3 minutes but services may be half an hour apart. Check the timetable (CBD to airport) for the day of the week you arrive at: http://www.airtrain.com.au/timetable.php

2.5 hours could be cutting it a bit fine if you take into consideration that the entry process into Brisbane is not always speedy. However, if you keep moving and don't dilly dally along the way, there is no reason that you can't do it. They are very thorough at Immigration, Customs and Quarantine. Then you will either have to wait for a train (which is easily accessible from the International terminal and will leave you very close to the Virgin check in area)or get a taxi which may or may not be in good supply. Also Virgin will require you to check in at least forty minutes before the flight. I would suggest that you hope and pray that the International flight will be on time and a word of advice spoken from experience - if you have anything at all to declare on the form given to you on the aircraft before you come into Brisb ane, for heaven's sake declare it. It will make your passage through the entry process much simpler. I make a deliberate point of having some chocolate or Harrod's teabags to declare because it seems that I'm always allowed to pass straight through when I do, whereas, if I don't have anything to declare, they don't seem to believe me and then I have to queue up to be checked out. I'm not saying this is what will happen to you, but it is amazing how many people give the same advice as I do. Good luck, just keep moving and you should be fine.

I second Kate's advice. Always have something to declare which is not a prohibited import.

We were arriving in Australia from New Zealand and had to change flights (and company) in Brisbane.

We had to pick up our luggage and to pass customs (passport and luggage) and Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (to prevent the entry into Australia of exotic pests, diseases and weeds). Both checks were very time-consuming.
In Brisbane are two terminals, which are located on quite a large distance from each other. There is an ‘Airtrain Service’, but it was running just every 15 minutes. Because we were running out of time we had to take a taxi and could catch our plane just a couple of minutes before the check-in desk closed.

Be aware and be sure you have enough time between your flights. In Brisbane you need at least two hours !!!

happy travels

I think catching a Cab would be your best option, there are always plenty of cabs waiting to pick up passengers and it wont cost you very much. It only takes less than an hour to go through customs/baggage etc.
