Nice Nice with 2 yr old
Posted: Sun November 16, 2008 03:38 PM UTC
Hi we are thinking of heading to Nice for a few days in January and will bring our 2 yr old son with us. Are there any nice playgrounds or other things a toddler would enjoy? I'm sure he would love the beach even if the weather is bad! Or can anyone recommend family friendly restaurants?
Thanks a lot

i do not know activities in Nice, for that age,but the Nice tourist office put this infor in French,
http://www.nicetourism.com/FR/frameset/sejour/frameset_acti.html
down its says PARC PUBLICS, it shows the parks especially taylor for the 2 yrs old, also click on parc and jardin underneath and a whole range of parks are shown, for the category.
last you can contact the office on the site for further information in the city. The site in English has a lot less information.
Nice is a very pretty city, the beach is an option of course. Have a good trip, we will have a VT from the get go then!

Do you realize the beach in Nice is stones and not sand? Just thought I'd mention if if you have visions of building sand castles. Of course the water and waterfront will be nice . . . but no sand.

There is a ruined chateau up on a hill overlooking the city (and sea) and there is a park up there with playground. Parc Phoenix has lots of fun things for small children. It's out by the airport but you can get a bus right to it. Take the city bus, not the airport bus. The city bus is just one euro.

A little one might just enjoy the market in Cours Saleya in the old town. There are so many different sights and sounds that I'd think a 2-year-old would be entranced at least for a short visit. A stop for hot chocolate would be good too. In summer there is a carousel just off the Promenade Anglais near Old Town but I don't know if it works during January. If so, that would be fun.

Sorry, I forgot. Do type Nice into the VT Search Window above. There are marvelous VT Member Travel Pages on Nice that give all sorts of restaurant suggestions. You could also type Nice with children in the window and scroll the next window down to Keyword Search and see suggestions that have already been entered on VT.

I think you'll find most except very high end restaurants are family friendly. We've observed the French to really enjoy children and to be very helpful to families. The easiest way to get lots of extra attention is to have either a child or family pet with you.

Have a great time.

Hi

There is far less to do in January with a two year old. The beach in Nice is very rocky and even in the summer it is not suitable for a two year old (the current in the sea is also very strong and dangerous) . If you go in the summer there is a lovel sandy beach in Juan les Pins which can be reached by bus (the Cannes Bus) or by train. Restaurants are family oriented but there is not a lot to do in Nice in January. Strolling down the promenade des Anglais in the summer months is a lovely experience with kids where you see many parents out with their kids. Januray is not really a good time.

Yes, the beach may not be up to much in winter, but January is as good a time as any to visit Nice. If the weather is good, kids can do plenty. Beausoleil mentioned the playground at the Chateau - my son had a geat time there when he was 15 months old. The park at Cimiez, next to the Roman amphitheatre, is also good for kids. The olive grove is a good place to run around. Parc Phoenix, which is a kind of botanic garden with birds fish and reptiles is also very good. It's close to the airport. The aquarium at Monaco is also a good place for young children.
