Mauritius MAURITIUS IN MAY
Posted: Sat November 15, 2008 02:02 PM UTC
My partner and I are visiting Mauritius for the first time next May 2009. Were staying at the Le Cannonier Hotel for 2 wks AI.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the weather in May? I'm expecting some rain but was just wondering how hot it may be in May as I know it is the start of the winter season. I'm presuming it will be warm enough to swim in the sea?

Also has anyone stayed at the Le Cannonier hotel and can tell me there thoughts on the hotel.

Thanks

Hi,
We have been going to Mauritius for the past 3 Mays and the weather has been in the mid to high 20s with a high of 30C. This year was unusual and we had 2 days of rain one weekend, but this seems to have been a worldwide thing. Usually you get an odd shower, the main rainy season is in summer (Oct to April) We have been other months too. We visited Le Cannonier and its lovely with 2 beaches and extensive grounds. Part of Beachcomber group, which means you can use the facilities at their other hotels in the area, Le Victoria and Le Mauricia.
Have a good trip. We are there May, though south west at Flic en Flac.

I still cant believe I'm actually going to Mauritius....I'm so excited!!!

I have booked an excusion at the Safari Adventures to do Walking with Lions. Have you done this?? It looks amazing.

Is there anything else you would recommend doing during my stay. We are planning to visit Ile Aux Cerfs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Kate!
I havent done the lion walk at Casela but people usually enjoy it! Also Ile aux Cerfs on the east is well worth a trip for its beach and snorkelling. Take a catamaran cruise aroung the island or to the northern isles, or a boat trip to watch the dolphins at Tamarin Bay. You can do the underwater sea walk. Grand Baie with its bazzaar, shops, bars and restaurants and a large supermarket is a 15 minute drive from your hotel. You can also catch a bus to Grand Baie or Port Louis the capital, which has some good shopping at Caudan and a craft market. The capital is worth a quick look to get the ambience of the place, but avoid the Central market unless you like hassle. A lot of the trips can be booked via local operators in Grand Baie, which would work out cheaper than the ones your agent or hotel tries to sell you. If you like gardens the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens has some interesting exhibits. To the south of Casela in the west you can visit Chameral with its 7 coloured earth and waterfall and Black River Gorges National Park. Mauritius has lots to offer, and this little list is just a taster!
Cheers,
Krissy :)
