Hi Kate!
I havent done the lion walk at Casela but people usually enjoy it! Also Ile aux Cerfs on the east is well worth a trip for its beach and snorkelling. Take a catamaran cruise aroung the island or to the northern isles, or a boat trip to watch the dolphins at Tamarin Bay. You can do the underwater sea walk. Grand Baie with its bazzaar, shops, bars and restaurants and a large supermarket is a 15 minute drive from your hotel. You can also catch a bus to Grand Baie or Port Louis the capital, which has some good shopping at Caudan and a craft market. The capital is worth a quick look to get the ambience of the place, but avoid the Central market unless you like hassle. A lot of the trips can be booked via local operators in Grand Baie, which would work out cheaper than the ones your agent or hotel tries to sell you. If you like gardens the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens has some interesting exhibits. To the south of Casela in the west you can visit Chameral with its 7 coloured earth and waterfall and Black River Gorges National Park. Mauritius has lots to offer, and this little list is just a taster!
Cheers,
Krissy :)
