World USA Rental Car - One Way
Posted: Thu November 13, 2008 12:07 AM UTC
My partner, friend and I are arriving in LA in Feb (from NZ) and plan to either purchase a car there or rent a car for our trip. We are looking at a one way option as we are going to end up in Vancouver, where we intend to live for a year. Drop off either Vancouver of Seattle.

Does anybody know of cheap options of rental cars who do the one way thing? Advice would be amazing from anyone who has been in a situation like this :) cheers

You can still find a rent a car service that is easy on your budget. At Thrifty, incentives and benefits are their top offers. Their customers keep coming back because of their luxurious and dependable cars with good and excellent service they are really proud of.

Below are their Great deals

* Drive $1 a day to Florida and drop the car to another participating branch or location with no drop fee at all.
* Mid size SUV for $37.99 a day. 24 hour advanced reservation is needed
* 15 % off on all luxury cars, premium cars, convertible, Mid size SUV or standard size SUV
* Fantastic savings on American Express Credit cards

Check Advantage Rent a Car. They have a Jeep Cherokee(good for the Mountain passes) for $317.10/week dropping in Seattle(your best bet) if the renter is over 25. If they are under 25, it gets more expensive with everyone

For Vancouver itself, (jobs, housing, cars, etc), you might go the the web sites for some of their newspapers: www.canada.com/vancouversun/index.html, is one of them. How long are you allowing to travel to from Los Angeles to Vancouver ? I don't believe you would wish to buy a car. I'm sure there could be issues with licensing and insurance. You also would also have to re-register the vehicle in Canada. You might want to check with the Vancouver authorities to see what paperwork you will need to license the vehicle there. If you are travelling directly from Los Angeles to Vancouver, it might be cheaper to take the train, or even a flight. Gary

There are companies that deal with transporting cars from one city to another. If a person is moving from LA to the Northwest and doesn't want to drive there, they will arrange with a company to have someone drive their car for them. I don't know if the person who drives the car pays anything.

As was said, buying a car isn't possible and renting a car for a one way trip of that distance would cost a fortune. That too probably isn't possible, as ar renting companies don't want their car to go too far from the renting location.
If one says that they'll return the car to LA and leave the car in Vancouver, the company would probably charge thousands of dollars.

Please keep to the right.

Check for auto transport, auto delivery and the like.

I, again

forgot to suggest that you check auto delivery, auto transport etc. Also, the classified section to the LA Times may have ads for companies the provide this service. If you know anyone in LA or if the LA Times has classified ads online, that would be great.

It appears you are under 25 so plan on cost being DOUBLE because of insurance. Buying is not a good option.
