Lhasa Lahasa and Everest BC !
Posted: Wed November 12, 2008 07:17 AM UTC
I am planning for a trip to Lahasa and Everest Base Camp during April 09 and looking for travel mate for us to share the costs that are prohibitively expensive for a single travller. If interested, please drop me an email.

I would also like to know train and plane fare between Lahasa and Changdu/Beiging.

Thanks in advance

You can check http://www.elong.net/ for flight information. Prices are sometime discounted as the departed date gets closer. Enter different dates of you flights to see what I mean.

Some of the backpacker places like the kery hotel offer trips to EBC and other areas. You do not have to stay at the hotel to take the trips. I was in Tibet back in 2006, I'm not sure how things are now.

Am I right in saying that if you get the train to Lhasa from Beijing, it doesn't stop anywhere that you can get out to break up your trip? How many hours is it please?

Do you need a permit for Tibet if you are an independent traveller? Where do you get these in Beijing? Where can you travel as an indepedent traveller in Tibet? Which cities?

And where do you buy the train tickets? Ellyse mentioned that there is a lot of paperwork to fill out...does anyone know how long you have to wait for the permit? And can you get it for a friend (saves them the time waiting in Beijing for it?!)

Thanks for any answers you can help with me!

I did a lot of research and my conclusion was never ending "if and but". As I am short of time, therefore I declined Lhasa/Everest. It's not logical that you spend a lot of money and then while you are close to Everest, some one asks you to return just because there is a deficiency in the last (~10th)permit.

Next month I will go to Nepal and will hop on an Everest Safari.
