Nürnberg Nurnberg v Furth 23/11/08

Dear all,

I will be in Frankfurt that weekend, however I would like to travel to Nurnberg for this game?

Will buying a ticket be easy on the day? also, what would be the cheapest way for 2 people to travel on the train from Frankfurt to Nurnberg? I take it a state train pass (Hessen) would not cover Northern Bavaria?

Kind Regards

Paul

Very interesting game with a local touch which will attract a lot of spectators. So not sure if you will get a ticket on the day. On the 1. FC Nürnberg website I saw that they have set up a limit on the number of tickets you can purchase - normally ten per person, now only four.

If you want to annoy Nürnbergers call them Northern Bavarians. They insist on being Franconians (Franken) - and they are. It does not matter than Franken is part of Bavaria ;-)))

And sure, the Hessen ticket is not valid in Bavaria.

But as the game is on a Sunday you can use the Schönes Wochenende Ticket. It is valid for up to 5 people until 3am (night to Monday) and the entire German rail network and costs 35 Euro. You can use it on regional trains, as the the state tickets.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: F
To: N
To: Frankenstadion
and select as means of transport "only local transport".

As already mentioned, best ticket option if regional trains are OK for you, is in this case the Happy-Weekend-Ticket (EUR 35,00). Covers the whole trip till the Frankenstadion (the stadium where the match will take place). Please note that - despite its name - the Happy-Weekend-Ticket is only valid either Saturday or Sunday.

Just in case you ever want to make a trip deeper into Bavaria on a weekday from Frankfurt:
a) buy RMV tickets from Frankfurt to Kahl, the first stop in Bavaria (EUR 6,75 pp)
b) buy a Bavaria Ticket for the rest of the trip

With this method you can even travel as far as Salzburg for
1 person: EUR 25,75
2 persons: EUR 20,25 per person
...
5 persons: EUR 9,80 per person
