Belize Help - 5 short nights, need itinerary help for newlyweds
Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 08:15 PM UTC
Hi all, I will be traveling with my wife to Belize in January for 5 short nights. We will only be married under 2 months and this will be a partial honeymoon. I would greatly appreciate it if we can get some itinerary help. Where to go and how many days/nights to stay in each place. Should we get a rental vehicle or take buses. Any help/recomondations would be appreciated. Thanks

Alot of package trips to belize combine a few days on the cayes for fishing/diving/pubcrawling with a few days inland doing the ruin tours or cave tubing.I don't think I'd want to do both in just 5 nights- But you could. You won't need a car on the cayes but a rental golfcart is a must for getting around.Inland we had no problems getting around with a rental car -Much cheaper than hiring a driver but not as cheap the bus.You can drive across the country in a few hours.

There's all different levels of acommodation in Belize depending on your budget and level of adventure.I would recomend picking either the islands or inland for a destination and what you want to spend then go from there.Airfare has come down this past week or so- It's a good time to book a flight.

I know Ambergris Cay fairly well-Give me an email if you have any questions about the island or different hotels .-Enjoy-C

If this is a honeymoon, you might want to splurge a bit. My favorite place to stay is right in the middle of the jungle at a Francis Ford Coppola lodging on the shores of a rushing river near the Guatemalan border. It is so beautiful, with wonderful food (partly from their huge organic garden), and tastings of the wines his vineyard in California produces. They fly you out there on their own small aircraft with splendid views of Belize's undeveloped jungle, and circle around some Mayan ruins on the way. He also has another property, beachside in Placencia, I believe, although I haven't visited. You could Google to find his places. I wouldn't advise staying more than an overnight in Belize City itself, as it doesn't have a lot to offer, IMO. Good luck in your planning!
