Cusco Admission to Machu Picchu
Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 07:51 AM UTC
How much is the entry fee to MP and can you use it more than once? Is it good for a 24-hour period, or is it charged each time you enter? What about Huayna Picchu; is there a cost for that?
Thanks,
Carlos

The current fee is or was 120.50 soles and is good only for a one time entrance. You cannot pay in dollars, euros or any other currency other than soles. There is no additional fee for Huayna Picchu. The trail up Huayna Picchu closes at 1pm while the ruins are open only from 7am to 5pm daily .

Then I assume it the Government of Peru that is "kidding" since this is posted at their tourism web site "Machu Picchu, the Adult entry fee is 120.50 soles and the Student price is 60 soles with your ISIC card. Please note that you can ONLY pay with soles (dollars are not accepted)."
This is the rate for foreigners, Peruvians pay a reduced rate.

I do not remember how much I paid last August, anyway you can not buy ticket at entrance anymore, only in Cusco or Aqua Calientes.

I remember my ticket to be around 120 Peruvian Soles last year (early September, 2007) or approx. $42-$44 (US dollars). As mentioned above, only local currency is accepted as payment. It is only valid for the day's entrance, so another day's visit will require another ticket. Tickets (400 tickets are given per day) for HP are free; however, you need to be there early for that adventure (first 200 tickets are for 7-10 am slots & the next 200 tickets are for the 10 am to 1 pm slots). Line up early to be granted these limited HP tickets. And MP entrance tickets are no longer available at the entrance and need to be purchased in advance as of March 2008. Please check out my write-up on this topic in my Aguas Calientes (general guide) & Machu Picchu pages (warning & limits). Goodluck & enjoy beautiful Peru!
