San Francisco Bike path from Fisherman's Wharf to GGB
Posted: Mon November 3, 2008 02:46 AM UTC
Hi,
My daughter and her friend plan to rent bikes in SF. The 2 bike rental spots mentioned in their tour book are on Pier 41 and Columbus St. Is there a bike path that goes from FW to GGB? It seems to be a popular thing to do in SF. I'm hoping (being a worry wart parent), that they will not have to bike along busy roads to go from FW to GGB. Our SF map shows a path of some sort. Is this a bike route? Thanks for any help.

Yes, there is a bike path. The going is easy till you get near the Golden Gate Bridge, then it is uphill a little. On the bridge, you do have to watch out for the walkers and picture takers. The cars are near, but in lanes. Go to the website: www.baycitybike.com and check out the map on "the rides" page.

there is a clear path along the Bay which runs west to the GGB. It does get very windy, tho. Back in 2004, there was a gift/coffee shop called the Warm Hut along the way.

Thanks so much. We've already looked at the website travelgourmet. Very informative. They were thinking of renting a tandem bike, but that may not be a good idea if the is trail hilly and windy. Thanks for that info.

may I suggest that you take the N/Judah or the L/SF Zoo streetcar out to Ocean Beach and drink in the majestic endless Pacific. You can walk north to Seal Rock and hear them barking! If you take the N/Judah, eat at Java Beach Restaurant, at the last stop, just across the Pacific Coast Highway from the ocean. You can also check your e-mail there. In downtown SF (Don't call it Frisco; they hate that!) I always love breakfast and lunch at Roxanne, on the SE corner of Bush and Sutter. This is 2 blocks north of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. If time permits, take the Ferry, from Fisherman's Wharf, to Alcatraz. It's a short 12 minute ride with a fascinating audio tour. Book ahead of time online. Sorry, I don't have a website; you'll have to hunt and peck. enjoy!
