Cheap but clean hotel in Venice Posted: Thu October 30, 2008 09:11 AM UTC
I would like to find a hotel in Venice, either somewhere walking distance to Piazza San Marco or alternatively somewhere very close to the water bus that takes you to Venice.
I'm looking for something decent, most important is that its clean and offers a decent breakfast nothing fancy.
Many thanks in advance,
Stephanie.

Hi
When are you going? What is your budget (in euro)? How many nights? Single or double room? Private or shared facilities?

I don't know that there is anything cheap in Venice. We stayed at the Santa Chiara Hotel and they had a place for breakfast, but we left too early to eat there and I don't know that it is included. One night for two people with an ensuite was $314 in April 2008. The hotel is right next to the water bus stand by the regular bus station.

It's confusing that you are in the Treviso rather than the Venice forum. There isn't a waterbus that takes you from there to Venice (though there's a Ryanair bus from Treviso Airport to Piazzale Roma, Venice's bus station): waterbuses (vaporetti) operate IN Venice, although from Marco Polo Airport you can take the Alilaguna shuttle boat. You could stay in Mestre and travel over the causeway by train, you could stay at one of the many hotels around P. Roma/Santa Lucia (railway station), or if you don't mind being further away you could even stay in Lido di Jesolo and take the motonave (bigger than a vaporetto) to Venice via the Lido: Jesolo hotels are about 1/3 the price of those in Venice, though of course it's not the same as being in the city.

If you don't have too many bags (of if you drop them in a locker), you can find a lot of places that are not advertised. When you are walking the streets, look for any place that says "cameres" (rooms).
They don't always advertise, so they sometimes have room despite peak/slow season. They are typically much more economical.

Hi
Close to the Santa Lucia station is Hotel Rosso - circa 50-60e per night per single room. This is close to Canale Cannereggio from where you get the water bus on Fondamenta Pischeria. Basically, you turn left leaving the train station and the Hotel Rosso is on the second street on your left.Again to get to Fondamenta Pischeria from the Train Station turn left on exit - continue walking with the grand canal on your right for circa 500 yards along the main street - Rio Tero Lista de Spagna - until you reach the Canale Cannereggio . Cross the bridge and the stop for the airport waterbus is to your left circa 20 metres. There is a small tobacconist adjacent to this from where you can a ticket.

Hi Stephanie,
We just got back from Venice and stayed at a great place, `Room in Venice B&B`. It cost approx. 80E per night for a double room with a shared bathroom and breakfast. This place is in a fabulous location, the rooms are large, spotless and nicely decorated and the host, Claudette is wonderful. I would strongly recommend staying here.
All the best,
Stephanie #2
