Hotel in Auckland, recommendations please? Posted: Tue October 28, 2008 04:14 PM UTC
Hi,
can anyone recommend an Auckland hotel, central, but not too noisey, it's only for 2 nights at the end of our trip, were not the age for clubs and bars, just want to see the city in the daytime and have a good nights sleep, probably a 4 star
or unless you know one that fits the bill, but less grading, thanks if anyone can help.

I always recommend the Parnell City Lodge, also known as Parnell Village Motor Lodge because I love lovely Parnell. You can walk to the city centre or take the bus, Auckland Museum is just a stonethrow away, and it is rather quiet.

(Tip on my VT Auckland page)
There is another hotel/lodge just around the corner in Gladstone Road which is super quiet and really nice. They have a 2 min video on their website, so you can see what you get. I have the feeling you would like this one ;-)

Another one in Parnell Road is the Parnell Inn:

Last time we stayed at the Kingsgate in Gladstone Road. It was very nice and even has an outdoor swimming pool, but I thought 5 minutes further up the hill would have been nicer, as there are no restaurants (apart from the hotel restaurant) at close range. But still it is only a 10 min walk to the heart of Parnell, and there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel.

I just spent 4 nights at the Duxton Hotel which is a short walk to the centre of the city. It was very nice for the price see www.wotif.com for a good rate.
The restaurant is very expensive in fact way over priced but there are plenty of restaurants nearby if you like Japanese, Korean, Indian or Thai and the room that I had did have cooking facilities anyway.

Well, the location of the Duxton is not bad. But wotif is only for short-term reservation, and even on wotif it costs $ 150 to 180...
