Hi

Nile cruising with a weeks chill out beginning January. Can anyone tell me what temperatures and general weather to expect please?

I went in January this year for the Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor.
Its often warm & sunny in the afternoon but night time is much cooler.
Bring a jacket with you in the evening. Aswan is warmer than Luxor, and I only wear long sleeve during the day without jacket. Its the best time to walk around there.
Cairo is much cooler if you go north, and there was freezing rain at night in Cairo when I was there.

for me a shirt with a tee shirt under it in the day time is plenty. and a good jacket not to light takes care of me pretty well outside in the much cooler nite air..

we just had sleet and rain a couple of days ago.

As you're from the UK you'll find it most pleasant in the daytime, and the evenings to be similar to many of our summer evenings. It's a bit cooler on the water, of course, than on land. I wore sleeveless t-shirt in the middle of the day, ordinary t-shirt before/afterwards then a light fleece as well in the evening. Pack light-ish layers, plus light fleece/jumpers/jacket.

Be prepared - it can get unexpectedly chilly in January. I wore a light coat throughout end of Dec and all of Jan the year I spent in Cairo. Light layers will work just as well if you'd like to avoid packing something you may not need.
