I might move to Colombo for a few months for work. I have an offer from a company which has its offices on Leyden bastian road, Colombo 1.

What kind of area is it? Will I be able to get a good apartment or single room with internet round this place and the approx prices as well?

Colombo 1 is the heart of commerical capital. full in the day time and doesnt have much activity during night. also best you look at renting a house -apartment outer area with food availability. Col 3,4,5,7, is better.
single room stuff are hard to get, but based on ur budget is tricky, bets might be a double with ADSL. ADSL (unlimited downloads) are about 25USD per month, while dial-up may not be upto standard.

Colombo 1 is a very commercialized area in the country and is the heart of colombo as per the above reply. It has many offices and gift shops mainly catering to the tourists.

Finding accomodation in that area would not be easy and not very many sri lankans would stay there due to the sound pollution. Therefore, its best you find a closer approximate location in and around the area with a reachable time to suit you. You could go through the Sunday papers where there are plenty of places available and also seek assistance from your office and i m sure they will be able to help you.

The ADSL at 25$ looks good and should be sufficient. The guys at work should be helpful and they have an apartment for me ready as well, if I do eventually take up the job offer, but I dont know the location as of now.

Finally, I'll do a lot of my own research as well..and one more thing, do you have wireless internet in Colombo?

wireless internet.

Main mobile company allows wireless moble internet.
main fixed line provider allows you to fix a wireless modem to ur room connection.

Best places to stay would be Colombo 03 or Colombo 04 which would be closer to mostly all offices located in Colombo. would be relatively expensive but would be closer to malls, night clubs, hotels etc.. and places which are Wifi Hot spots. Even in Colombo 06 you can get a lot of apartments.. The internet dongle is even available which'll give your Note book mobile internet access anywhere. Dialog and mobitel are service providers who will give you this facility. Do a google search on them.
