Kyrgyzstan Charities
Posted: Wed October 22, 2008 03:07 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate any help anyone can provide in the following area.

I am looking to find a charity in Kyrgyzstan that I could possibly volunteer with for a bit or help raise money for. I really want to find a good one that actually helps people, or animals if at all possible, and that isn't too corrupt, i.e. most funds actually go towards charity. I would really like to be able to volunteer there for a bit as I pass through the country. I know most places don't like random foreigners interrupting their daily routine, but I'd be willing to donate money as well.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

Hello Dear!
My name is Savva Mavroyanidi. I work for MABOS- Manas Air Base Outreach Society. This is a charity organization created by American military personnel to help local community. We visit and support several Kyrgyz orphanages and hospitals and provide them with clothing, toys and food for the kids. Also we help to pay for surgeries at Kyrgyz Children’s Heart Hospital, do some repair projects for them. If you are interested in helping real people I can put you into touch with MABOS people and authorities of the orphanages and hospitals. You can visit these places, see what they really need, buy some stuff for them and bring it. In this case you will decide yourself what to bring and can monitor the whole process. But I can tell you that the orphanages we work with are trustworthy because we constantly do checking and monitoring and everything always goes to the kids not the pockets of director or teachers.
