Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Kazakhstan Charities
Posted: Wed October 22, 2008 03:05 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate any help anyone can provide in the following area.

I am looking to find a charity in Kazakhstan that I could possibly volunteer with for a bit or help raise money for. I really want to find a good one that actually helps people, or animals if at all possible, and that isn't too corrupt, i.e. most funds actually go towards charity. I would really like to be able to volunteer there for a bit as I pass through the country. I know most places don't like random foreigners interrupting their daily routine, but I'd be willing to donate money as well.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

Are you and jenjenla also from Gainsville travelling together?

I wonder if in Florida there is some kind of International Charity and Aid Co-ordinating organisation? Or maybe a Federal body responsible for such things. If you were in the UK it would be where I would suggest such an enquiry be made in the first instnace.
There are just so many people undertaking week in troubled area -faith based, humanitarian, medical, cultural, big and small. So I think you need to get as much info as possible grom someone who has an overall view of the charity/ais situation in the countries you mention

Hi Ranger49,

Yes, Jen and I are planning a trip together. We are in the beginning information-gathering stages though. The reason I am asking about charities here is that we want to help more local ones in the areas we will be. We would like to raise money as well as donate some time and see everything in action as we travel through over the next year. There are websites that show U.S. charities and where their money actually goes, etc. and there are some that send aid to Central Asia, but not many. And most just send aid or things, we actually want to go help and see the organization in action. I have never really been a huge fan of large, March of Dimes organizations as a large portion of the money goes to publicity and events as opposed to helping people. We wanted to search out possibly smaller local organizations that we could really help out in a multitude of ways besides just providing funds to something we will never see. Sorry for the long response, but thanks for the reply/suggestion.
