Porto Porto info/trip planning

Hi. Am planning a trip next summer for my birthday. Porto is at the top of my list. Traveling with 2 families, 4 teens ages 11-13. I'd appreciate recommendations on things to see and do with teens, restaurant likes/dislikes and villa/house recommendations or websites to look at. I know beaches are close, but which ones do you like best? We will have a car so transportation will not be a problem either with villa rental or activities.

Also, does anyone know driving time estimates between Barcelona and Porto? Would like to stay several days at each location. Recommendations for villas/house in Barcelona would be appreciated as well.

Thanks for your help.

The two beaches I liked best when I visited were at Matosinhos (accessible by tram from the city)and down at Espinho.

A car is unnecessary in the centre of Porto. Buses and the trams (metro) are very cheap. Much of the historic city is walkable, if a bit hilly.

Driving time Porto to Barca about 11 hours without stopping. I used maps.google.co.uk for that; use the 'Get Directions' feature and it will map out a route etc for you.

Hello!
For me the best beaches are between Vila Nova Gaia and Espinho. You have a special walking route by the sand (wood path) for 20 km: great walk, I can tell you!
You can visit Funfação Serralves: it is a modern art museum, a big garden with all kinds of plants, some farm animals, a great house in Art Nouveau and a tea house. Free on Sundays morning.
Casa da Música is a modern concert hall. It has concerts of classical music "explained" at noon on Sundays and many other concerts.
I will try to remember some more things, but Summer is so far away...Winter has just arrived in Portugal! :(
You can email me if you want.
Have a nice week-end!
