Hello,

I was hoping to get some information on booking a reasonably priced apartment in New York City in November for 5 people. We are coming from Ireland on the 20th and will be staying for 6 nights. We would ideally like to stay in Manhattan if possible, but would appreciate any information at all. We have been having some difficulty with finding appropriate accommodation so far and a few arrangements have fallen through. We are therefore keen to get it sorted as soon as we can.

Too many illegal apt. rentals and waaaay too many scams! There's a good chance you'll rent an apt., and then get here to discover you've been scammed. ("But he seemed like such a nice guy!") Plus, you'll have no recourse to recover your money, since it's illegal in the first place!

Get two hotel rooms.

Thanks for the comments 10023. They are most appreciated. Unfortunately we got a little entangled in one of thes scams which is why I thought it best to seek some advice on VT about the matter. Hard to believe some of the stuff going on!!

Declan, I would totally agree with 10028 and avoid apartment rental altogether. Unlike virtually everywhere else in the world, New York actively discourages apartment rental - it is illegal in most residential areas and I have read too many horror stories of people turning up at addresses only to find that there is no apartment there for me ever to risk it. Two hotel rooms would be the way to go. Try The Salisbury or Radio City Apartments although you are cutting it a bit fine in terms of time. Good luck.

I have 5 friends coming in from Italy at the end of the month and they made reservations at http://www.thepodhotel.com/ - Nothing fancy, very basic, but centrally located and the price is not too bad.

Stopping by tomorrow to do a site inspection and will let you know.
