Freycinet National Park Hiking to Wineglass Bay with a baby - is it do-able?
Posted: Sun October 19, 2008 11:53 AM UTC
Hi, my husband and I will be traveling to Tasmania soon with our 18 month old. We are very keen to visit the Wineglass bay and would love to bring our little toddler along. We have a baby carrier that we can use during the hike. I've read that the hike is quite steep to get to the bay. Has anyone done it before with a little one? Any tips to share? Approx. how long does it take to get the bay at a casual pace? Thanks.

Hi We hiked from the Eco Resort to the hill north of Wineglass Bay in 2004 and had a fantastic view of the bay. It took some effort for us to get that far , but maybe we are 30 years older than you. A child stroller would be a problem.

Have you any idea where you will start your hike. Have a look at Wineglass Bay and surrounding area on Google World, it might help you understand the challenge.

Good Luck,
Mike

Thanks Mike for your response. I just had a look of the area via google earth - that was a great idea. We won't be using the stroller but will be using a baby carrier backpack instead. We are looking at starting our walk from the Sleepy bay carpark area to Wineglass bay beach then return via the same route.
