What kind of sunglasses?

I will be in Antarctica next month. The travel agency told me to make sure to bring sunglasses with a very high ultraviolet filter - but I don't find this kind of information sufficient.

Is UV filter 400+ sufficient? Do those glasses need to be VERY dark?

I am just worried that I won't see any penguins because maybe those glasses are too dark - and on the other hand I am worried about my eyes and my sight....

You might try an optometrist.
They should be able to suggest what your eyes need.
Also Penguins in Antarctica are like gazelle in Africa.

In fact, I already talked to one optometrist and one outdoor "specialist"... They were just as insecure, since Antarctica is a little "off the beaten path"....

I will check more places and eventually end up with something suitable - I hope!

I wore regular sunglasses the entire trip and they were fine. My trip was in February!
