Copenhagen "inexpensive" souveniers on stroget
Posted: Tue October 14, 2008 03:44 AM UTC
its my understanding on stroget there are more expensive sections and less expensive ones---which section would have the more inexpensive (yes, I know CPH is expensive to begin with--but inexpensive for CPH) souveniers, ie, coffee mugs, beer glasses, little mermaid statues, magnets, etc.??

We'll I'm not usually buying these kind of things when traveling, so maybe others may help you better. There are a few souvenirs shops in Stroget, as far I remember in the part closer to Nyhavn. All equally expensive, and all selling equally bad taste items IMHO
In any case, I found the shop at the National Museum a much better place to buy nice souvenirs instead of tacky stuff.

the cheapest souvenier store on stroget is located on amagertorv, next to the 7/11 in the corner of the square.
at least that is what two argentinian friends of mine told me when they were in town a year ago.

Depending on what kind of souvenirs you want, try checking out places like Tiger - right across from Radhuspladsen next to Barresso Coffee. They dont have typical souvenirs but cheap stuff costing 10 kroner. Occaisionally they have souvenirs, also try some of the genbrug shops off the stroget. These are usually located in basements. You will see lots of junk in the windows. They also have used souvenir type stuff. There is place called Sosternes Grene, you wont notice it as you go down Stroget because it does not look like a shop. When you are walking down "Stroget" - about 1/2 way down you will see a church on your left. Almost directly across from that is a White building with their name half way up the building. If you can not find it just ask someone walking down the Stroget they will tell you. Address is Amagertorv 29.

But most of the souvenir shops on Stroget will be EXPENSIVE, so either forget the tacky souvenirs and buy nice piece of Danish glassware, pottery or other Danish items from Ilums. It will last and be worth having as a souvenir.
