Lodge/Lake Geneva area Posted: Mon October 13, 2008 07:00 PM UTC
Hi
I'm trying to plan a winter (December) long weekend getaway from Chicago. We'd like to go somewhere driving distance (3 hours or so) that is a lodge vibe, and isnt a family style water park. Can anyone reccomend anywhere in the Lake Geneva area or in any part of central or southern Wisco? Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
I liked New Glarus a lot.But this is probably the wrong time of the year to go there...But the brewery and especially the beer there is worth a visit:-)(newglarusbrewing.com)

If you are willing to do B&Bs, you will have a lot more options in Southern WI.
Most "lodge" facilities are also touristy or big convention centers ie: Grand Geneva and all the Dells stuff ( yuk). There are many great B&Bs in the
Mineral Pt. area, New Glarus as above poster said, and on the Lake MI coast.
Here is a link for Lodge acccomodations, click on the area of WI you are interested in:

I am assuming you dont have kids since you are not interested in the fanily style waterpark? Here's a link to some great Madison B&Bs, and info on the area. Just make sure you have your own bathroom, that's the only thing
we require!

OK, now you've got me going!
Have you considered White Pines, in Oregon IL?
Adorable cabins and a Lodge Restaurant. Great for a weekend. They even
have dinner/theatre shows. Small park, short trails but still fun.

Starved Rock in Ottawa,IL also has a Lodge and cabins and
great hiking!

Have fun!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. A few quick notes...
First, we do not have children and are looking for a place that is more adult/couple friendly. We definitely don't want the waterpark vibe or anything with a lot of loud kids.
Also, I know of New Glarus beer, but is it a hotel/lodge too? More info please!
Thanks again.
