Funchal Travel Forum

We'll be in Funchal for one day off a cruise ship early November. We have booked
a car/driver for 4-5 hours in the morning. What would be the "must see" sights on the beautiful island. He'll drop us off either at the cable car or in town so we can walk around in the afternoon (market, Blandy's wine tour, lunch) before we return to the ship.

Also....any lunch suggestions?

It is difficult to pick out one 'must see' but it may be best to ask the taxi drivers advise as he will give you info and you can chose which area you go to.The East is the more floral/forest area and the West has very dramatic scenery and waterfalls. If he drops you at the cable car, you are well placed to have lunch in the Old town, which has numerous very good restaurants, a couple worth considering are Tappassol, Le Jardin and Arsenios. From there it is a few minutes walk to get you back into the City Centre
