Johannesburg Safari tips aorund Johannesburg?

I will be in Johannesburg for business and have planned to stay on from the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 28th and fly back on Monday, Dec. 1st catching an evening flight.

Something I always wanted to do is going on a safari. Could you help me with some advice about what is feasible and maybe suggest a reliable agent?

Thank you for your help

You can fly to Nelspruit and tour Kuger. There are masses of tours on the net who will do this for you, including the flight. If they operate in Kruger they tend to be reliable. Kruger is very well controlled. You could book the flight yourself:

If you want to search for South African Companies, put 'ZA' in the search to pull up local sites.

Sounds like an excellent adventure combining work and travel!

Hello, I was just there last month and Kruger is a 3.5 hour drive from Jo'burg and you can do a self-drive through the park. Start in White River, drive early morning to park gate. I saw quite alot of wildlife as the weather was unseasonably cool.

This is the way to go if you do not mind driving, the roads are great and rentals cheap.

No doubt, a tour operator can arrange a safari for you in many parks, not just Kruger, either way it will be great that time of the year. Enjoy!

I would drive up to Sun City (www.suninternational.com) and then go into the Pilansberg game reserve. This is close to Jhb..one and half hours... and has the big 5. You can book into camps in the Pilansberg as well if you dont want to stay in Sun City.

I would agree that Pilanesberg is the easier way to go and all the animals you would want to see are there.

In addition to good suggestions above, have a look at following website for game reserves closest to Johannesburg: http://www.sa-venues.com/accommodation/ga_game_lodges.htm

great thread. I'm going to be in Johannesburg in late december. What are some of the prices I should expect?

We'd like to find some safe and reasonably cheap lodging. We'd like to do a 2 or 3 day stay and get a guided tour by rangers. I'm also looking for a reliable agent.

what do you suggest?
