Visiting in December,on a cruiseship.
Contemplating shore excursion with ship or do it off my own back. Could you advise me if this would be easy to arrange and maybe any tips?

We have sailed twice out of Barbados and the place where the ship ties up is a pretty long walk to where you can catch the taxi. We did the Rhino Rider off the ship the first time we stopped and loved it. The second time we sailed from there and did not do any tours.

We had a friend who ran a fishing boat in Alaska and he said you will pay about 15% more by booking with the ship than going directly with the vendor. However, in smaller ports the ship may buy up all the tours and therefore you will not have any available; this almost happened to us in Alaska for a helo tour to the top of the glaciers.

Depending on the tour 15% might just be what the cost of getting to/from is going to cost you.
