San Francisco Recommendations on wine tours
Posted: Sat October 4, 2008 03:20 AM UTC
We'll be visiting San Fran for the Canadian long weekend in October and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on wine tours?

We don't like the heavily commercial wineries like Mission Hill (for those familiar with British Columbia wines)or Robert Mondavi. We love wines like Quail's Gate, found in the Okanagan in British Columbia. We like all kinds of wines (Chardonnays, Shiraz, etc.) and not particular about whether it's red or white (I like white, he likes red).

Don't forget to see the castle that V. Sattui owner, Darryl/Dario Sattui built and is now open to the public, in Calistoga. V. Sattui is in St. Helena and the Castello di Amorosa in up the Hwy 29 in Calistoga. Both are worth visiting. See my Napa pages for photos, tips, and travelogue on the two wineries plus others.

Napa Valley vs. Sonoma Valley. It matters to many, but not by the wineries but by the soil. Napa wins. As to visitors eating at V. Sattui, what should visitors do? Eat somewhere else. V. Sattui has the only deli at a winery in Napa Valley, so visitors, that's most of us, plan to picnic on the grounds. There are many wineries that are family owned and not heavily visited in Napa Valley. As for the Vter who asked the question on recommendations, no weekends are left in October, so I only trust that you both enjoyed your holiday.
