Rome - Pisa is 26.4 Euros one way. Rome - Naples is 22.21 Euros one way. A return ticket might cost slightly less than double, but count on it being exactly double. As far as I know, you can't buy a through ticket to Pompeii from Rome. Pompeii Scavi is on a local line that you join at Naples main station.

The trenitalia website is available in several languages - the Italian one seems more comprehensive and isn't too hard for non-Italian speakers (such as myself) to follow if you take your time.

Hi,

We were in Rome in September. We travelled to Pompeii from the Termini. There was 5 of us 4 adults plus 1 child. We used a ticket machine in the Termini and got one-way to Napels for all of us total cost 45.00Euro. The the Circumvissa (Something like that) line from Napels to Pompeii Scarvi was 22 Euro total for all of us. This was a return price. On the way home we searched the ticket machine and got back to Rome from Napels for 45 Euro. Total cost of the trip was 112 Euro. Pretty cool. However it took us about 3.5 hours all up to get there so either start out early or stay overnight.
Good luck have fun. Pompeii worth every cent.

The local rail line for the Bay of Naples area is the Circumvesuviana, so you'll know what to look for on signposts.
