Angkor Wat Narrowing down hotel options in Siem Reap. Please help.
Posted: Thu October 2, 2008 12:17 AM UTC
We're narrowing down our hotel options in Siem Reap for our trip in November:

Auberge Mont Royal
La Maison d'Angkor
Prince d'Angkor

And maybe Shinta Mani

We're looking for a laid-back, quiet, relaxing, friendly and clean hotel. Something that we can look forward going after a long day touring the temples. Something that has character and charm, and not really looking for those 5-star chains.

Any feedback in terms of location, service and your personal experience will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, guys, and cheers!

I can only comment on location as I have not stayed in the three/four hotels mentioned. Here goes
Auberge Mont Royal: Great location in the Taphul Village area of SR town. Close to night market, pubs, restaurants, shops.
La Maison d'Angkor : Located on Nat Route 6, not a great location if you like to be close to shops, restaurants etc
Prince d'Angkor : Great location in Old French Quarter, close to shops, restaurants etc.
Shinta Mani : Great location in Old French Quarter as above

Hope that helps

I would recommend Auberge Mont Royal. My friend and I stayed there about 3 years ago. Nice hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. On a side street so away from noise but easily accessible to market etc.

I stayed at Prince D'Angkor a few months ago, found it an excellent place !!

Enjoy yourself in Siem Reap, do make sure you have dinners at (1) Le Malraux (2) Dead Fish Tower (3) Viroth's.

A good place for lunch is Cafe D'Angkor, diagonally opposite the entrance to Angkor Wat.

Let me know if you need more assistance.

BTW, do you also plan to do Phnom Penh ?

How about the Day Inn unless I`m too late. Just off the beaten track but not too far from the centre of things, excellent pool to relax in and very good rooms with friendly staff. Shop around to compare rates though as I believe they`ve just increased rates for direct bookings.

Hello, we just arrived home after visiting Thailand and Siem Reap Cambodia. The whole city of Siem Reap is dedicated to the tourism and Angkor so it is very easy to find transportation or guide there.

However we booked a guide in advance, becouse our friends been there last year and recommended a guide. We were very satisfied with his services, he has his own car and knows everything about the country and Angkor, speaks english quite well. I can only suggest the contact him and visit his site before: www.smiles-of-angkor.com

We were staying in Tara Angkor Hotel, very nice 4* hotel, at reasonable price on the road from the city to the temples.

To go into the city center is only 2-3 usd depending on your bargaining abilities. hyper.gif

People are very friendly there and it is a very safe place despite poverty.

Prepare at least usd 50 in 1 dollar bills, becouse whereever you will be stopping, dozens of childer will come to you selling handcraft articles, souvenirs and postcards all for 1 usd.

The guiding cost is usd 30/day regardless of the size of your group, the car is 30 usd as well.

A 3 days entry pass is 40 usd, and you have to pay for the visa as well (20 usd) and when you are living the country you pay airport tax on the airport usd 25! The food and dring isnt expensive at all.
