Re: Getting from Bratislava to Prague Posted: Wed October 1, 2008 10:12 PM UTC
Buy the train ticket at Bratislava train station, but NOT to Praha. Instead, buy it till the "magic" place called Kuty(GR), the price is 3.72 Euro or 112 Slovak Crowns. Once you see the Czech conductor, buy from him the Kuty(GR)->Praha ticket. That will be 299 Czech Crowns or ca. 12 Euro.
This way your ticket will total under 16 Euro instead of Bratislava->Praha direct ticket for 19.80 Euro. You can use the same train!
Going from Praha to Berlin is best to buy the ticket on-line from www.cd.cz ticket shop. There is a guide in English on-line how you can do. The discounted price is 29 Euro. If you cannot get it easily, try to buy a Bad Schandau->Berlin ticket on-line from DB at
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?ld=212.32
- and add Praha->Schöna(GR) ticket you buy in Praha for 134 Crowns (ca. 5 Euro). Keep in mind, you will need to buy a Schöna(GR)->Bad Schandau section at international counter in Praha, the price is 3.80 Euro.
So even if you don't manage the Czech on-line ticket shop, getting to Bad Schandau is easy and cheap (ca. 9 Euro) and buying on-line from DB the Bad Schandau->Berlin ticket is relatively straightforward.
As before, you do not need to de-train, you just show your ticket collection to the conductor - it does properly cover the entire Praha-Berlin line on any through train.
