As someone who has hosted many international students here in the UK, I feel that you should try and introduce yourself to British (English speaking) students rather than French speaking ones.
Yes, French speakers can, at times, help you translate and understand any work/lectures/tutorials etc that you may have, but to truly get to grips with your studies you really need to mix with English speakers.
I have found that those students of mine who do mix, get a far faster and better grasp of English than those who keep within their fellow countrymen and as a result do far better in exams, tests etc. This is so important when you get into the more advanced stages of university work.
