I am traveling alone and kind of like bakeries and open air markets then make myself a small picnic of sorts when I travel alone. Can anyone suggest a good market for fresh olives, cheeses and bread in Sintra. Nothing touristy please.

There are a couple of options to buy your picnic in Sintra. There is a daily market near the Modern Art museum end of town behind Avenida Desiderio Cambournac.

Also before you get to that bit, on the way to the Modern Art Museum you come to a main shopping street Largo Afonso Albuquerque, there is a small shop on the right which sells lots of fresh fruit, hams, olives, cheese and bread. On the left hand side a little further up there is supermarket if you would prefer to shop there. The Tourist office will be able to show you where the streets are.
