Funchal Travel Forum

My husband and I will be in Funchal on New Year's Eve and we would like to make reservations in advance for the evening that includes taking in the fireworks display. Any suggestions as to the best hotel locations and which hotels take online reservations for New Year's. Perhaps someone has a better idea of how New Year's could be best enjoyed in Funchal. Thank you.

If you are on a cruise ship for the evening, I would suggest staying put, you will have the best view.Unless you are staying in a hotel on the island where you can't see them from, many have spectacular views for the display, just make your way down to the harbour at about 9.00 and soak up the atmosphere, it will be crowded, the mood happy and it is great. The display begins at midnight and lasts for about 20 - 30 minutes. Two good locations for views from Hotels are the Panaramico Hotel which is up in the hills above the Lido area, and also Casino ,Cliff Bay and Carlton hotels, but most hotels along the main area have seafront views.
