Japan Shinkansen tickets
Posted: Sat September 27, 2008 10:29 AM UTC
I have just bought a trip on the Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Tokyo from a machine at the station but was issued with only one ticket. Normally, I get two. Is this bad news?!?! Do I have to start again or is there a way round it? The ticket I got was 7,000 Yen and has the seat/carriage details etc on it.

Hiroshima to Tokyo should be more than Y7000? Talk to the nice people in the ticket office for confirmation.

No idea of what it means.... but I would ask at the ticket office too. I wandered around Japan knowing only 3 words of Japanese, and still managed to ask and get lots of info from the very nice people at the ticket offices and tourism info points :)

Not sure if it's too late. but for sure you just bought a 'ticket' but then you will have to pay a 'charge'. It happen to me once when I went to Kyoto. No problem on the trip to Kyoto (got two tickets for that).

Anyway, if you are in no hurry, you just go to the station and show your ticket to the officer who will always stand in front of ticket gates. He will point you to the nearest ticket machine which always be near to accommodate this kind of trouble (I suspected that the Japanese people also have the same problem).

Hi. From Hiroshima to Tokyo....
(1)Use NOZOMI train
Fare 11,340 yen + Express surcharge (reserved seat) 7,210 yen
(2)Use HIKARI train
Fare 11,340 yen + Express surcharge (reserved seat) 6,710 yen

I guess you got a NOZOMI reserve seat ticket.
