Transportation Posted: Fri September 26, 2008 03:43 PM UTC
Hi all,
could you please tell me how much a taxi costs from SF international airport to Sir Francis Drake hotel Union Square?
Also can you tell me how we can go by public transportation from Union square to McAfee Coliseum for Oakland Raiders game.
Any reviews for Sir Francis Drake hotel as a found a really nice rate there?
Thank you

A taxi from SFO to Union Square is a pretty pricey undertaking. Instead, you might consider using BART (very easy to do!), or an airport shuttle (about $15 per person), or (if there are more than 4 of you) a limo service. I found this site which might be useful for you: www.sftravel.com/sfo-airport-transit-bart.html. It gives you some really good details. You can also take BART to the stadium come game day!
I don't think you'll have to worry about being disappointed at the Drake! It's one of San Francisco's historic luxury hotels and it's just undergone a huge renovation.
Have a wonderful stay!!

I've stayed at the Drake 3 or 4 times already, and I've never been disappointed (obviously!). You'll love the Beefeater doorman in his dazzling red jacket, frilly cuffs, and squat top hat! Now, as our colleague has stated, there is no need to spend alot of dough on a cab, when the BART stops at SFO, unless you're a large party, etc. You look young and robust, so you could haul your bags uphill 5 or 6 blocks from the Powell St BART station to the Drake.

I think a cab would be around $40 - $50, depending on the traffic. If there's more than one of you, it's worth it not to have to wait for the Supershuttle. Take BART to the game. The Sir Francis Drake has a great reputation - I'm a local so have never stayed there. Scalas, their restaurant, is one of my favorites. It's in a good location. There's lots of public transportation and you can walk to many tourist areas.

Dear all,
thank you for your replies. It's my second time in SFO. The 1st time i stayed in Chancellor hotel just accross the Drake hotel. I was impressed by the doorman as you said and i believe its a classy hotel.
We are comming 7th November and the rate is 140$/day!!!
Regarding the transportation from airport to hotel i just wanted to know the taxi rate as we are "young" but after a 23 hours flight from Athens we will be exhausted and i dont think we can wait for shuttle to pick us up. We will try. Neither we can carry our luggages from the bart station even for two blocks!
We arrive Friday 14:00 hours and i suppose we will face traffic.
Regarding the BART to the stadium can you tell me which station to get off?
Thank you again
Katerina

According to the site I quoted you earlier, it would be the Powell Street station. Hope you have a great trip and a terrific stay!

Hi Katerina,
Just thought I'd chime in too. What other members have quoted is correct. Overall, it would cost about $50 from SFO to Union Square ($40 from Oakland to your hotel). But BART would be less than $6. There's an air shuttle that'll take you to the station, you can catch one to the Powell Street Station and be in the city in 30 minutes. If you don't have a lot of luggage, BART would be ideal. The Sir Francis Drake isn't too far from the stop too. :)
Have a wonderful time in S.F.!

A taxi is around $40US BUT you can just take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) for about $7 from inside the airport direct to the Cable Cars, which is a quick walk to Union Square (2 blocks). To get to Oaktown via BART to catch a Raiders game, see http://www.bart.gov/. It's delightfully straightforward.

Take BART from the Powell Street station to the Coloseum Station. (Fremont or Dublin/Pleasanton line). You can get to the game by simply walking over the pedestrian bridge to the game. Have a great time and remember. DON'T CALL IT FRISCO.
