| Gibraltar | ques at the border Posted: Sat October 25, 2003 08:07 PM UTC
We will be visiting Gibraltar in a few weeks for a weekend, and are debating whether to hire a car for a day and see a bit of Spain while we are there. I have heard there can be long queues in and out of Gib. Does anyone know how long these queues are likely to take.
Thanks in advance Di |

I guess it will depend on the time of the day. The first time I went, one August, about mid-moring and we queued for over an hour. The second time I went, same time of year, we went about 5:00pm and only queued about 20 minutes.
One word of warning though, whatever direction you arrive from make sure you join the very end of the queue and don't try and join it half way down at a round-about junction like I once tried. They don't like it!

when we went there the line was long. what they told us is that you have to go early but not in the time that people have to go to there work.
but i forget what time we get there. i also understand that some people park the car before the border. we went to the rock with the car. paid entrance one time for the tunnel, caves, castle and apes. i hope some other people can give you more info. bye

Hi!
When i was in Gibraltar 2 years ago, in September, i was waiting about 1 hour to enter, but my friend said, that when he was there it was so huge queue that he didn't go to Girbraltar at the end (both from spanish side)He was there in July-high season. For going out i was waiting more, because many tourists were leaving at same time(i think 5 pm,6pm, or something like this)Probably now you will not have a problem, but i am not sure...i can only tell you my experience. Cheers R

Thanks everyone for your responses. As we will be staying in Gib and hiring the car from there, we would probably be crossing over into Spain something like 10am in the morning, which will more than likely be on the sunday (end of November) and returning sometime in the evening. So I am hoping those times and the time of year will be a little better.
Thanks again for your help Di

We stayed in Algecirus in May, two years ago. We drove to Gibralter, but because of the long line we parked our car in the Spanish city which abuts Gibralter. It was not particularly expensive to park outside of Gibralter. The walk into Gibralter was easy. We quickly were able to get a tour car to take us onto, around, and through the mountain. We have never regretted visiting Gibralter.

We were there in Nov. 1999 and arrived via car from Spain just before sunset with minimal lines. Getting out late the next afternoon was about an hour wait in line.

Thanks for your reply. I am hoping that if we do decide to hire a car for the day and pop into Spain that by the time we cross and also coming back, queues should not be toooooo long.
Thanks again Di
