San Francisco Travel Forum

Im travelling to san francisco in may next year and was wondering as its my first time if anyone can recommend a good reasonably priced hotel that is in a central location? Also hows the public transport from the airport into the centre? Many thanks for any advice.

You might want to check out some of the dozens of reviews on the VT tips page. You'll get many more opinions than will come up in this forum.
As far as transportation, BART goes into the City from the airport. It is convenient, but only has a few stops.

I used priceline and got Mark Hopkins Intercontinental on California St. for less than $100/night. It's a nice boutique hotel and a cab from BART Powell Station will cost you abt $7.

Will you be travelling to San Francisco on vacation, business, or a combination of the two ? Gary

I have stayed, 3 times, at the Sir Francis Drake, which is a Kimpton property, centrally located 2 blocks north of Union Square. I've always paid less than 200/night, but that was paid directly to their site. you might get it cheaper on priceline or other similar site; who knows?

BART into The City is a good choice from the airport. Easy to use, and not expensive.

We recently stayed at the Club Quarters on Clay Street near Embarcadero Center and it was perfect for us. It's a private hotel mostly for business members, but they are open to non-members on weekends. It's a full service hotel, centrally located (we walked pretty much everywhere), and reasonably priced. Thanks for the advice on the thread, im spending time there on holiday only, hoping for some relaxation a bit of sightseeing and some good nightlife with hopefully some live rock.
