State of Tasmania Backpacker hostel in Launceston and Hobart
Posted: Thu September 25, 2008 03:58 PM UTC
I am looking for a hostel in Launceston and Hobart.

I found YHA backpacker in Hobart but it is not available to book online now.
I also found http://www.launcestonbackpackers.com.au/rates.htm in Launceston. But I do not know if it is near city centre or not.

Can somebody coming to Launceston and Hobart suggest me a reasonable backpacker hostel in the centre of Launceston and Hobart?

Hope for your help. Thank you so much.

On the Launceston hostel's website you can find a map which shows you that it is not far from the very city centre.

On this map you can have a closer look at the city centre:

Sorry, no recommendation for hostels, I mostly stay in hotels and motels.

But if you want to find out about locations just check it on www.googlemaps.com and similar websites, if there is no map on the hostel website.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.
I will stay 3 days in launceston, one day for Cradle Mountain and one day to visit Lavender farm. Can you recommend me some other sightseeing in inner city that I can visit? Thanks.

There would probably only be one hostel in each of these cities.

In Hobart you can enquire from The Welcome Stranger Hotel (www.welcomestranger.com.au). It is very close to the city centre, only 5 minutes walk to the Salamanca Place. I stayed in one of their double en-suite and it was $98/day + breakfast in 2004. They also have dorms with shared facilities which are cheaper. The room I stayed was a bit old but clean, that's enough for me. As for Launceston, I stayed in a motel. You can also check from Google search, I believe it would give you a lot of choices. If you want to get independent reviews about the hostels, just type "Launceston Tasmania accommodation reviews".

In Launceston city centre, you can take the chairlif at the Gorge. My recommendation of the lavender farm is Rowella Lawender Farm in Launceston. There are around hundred types of lavender in the farm (in late spring), and the staff is friendly. On other activities in the heart of Launceston and Hobart, you can check from tourism tasmania website.
