The Gambia Sunbeach hotel
Posted: Wed September 24, 2008 02:05 PM UTC
Hi all

New to the forum. Haven't had the chance to add any information about myself..Will do.I visited Gambia christmas '08 for one week.. I stayed at Palm Grove hotel.. I really enjoyed it there although it was a little isolated. Far from anywhere else. Taxis aren't a problem. I am thinking of revisitng again for the last week in December, spending the new year there. Has anyone stayed at Sunbeach or Kombo? Read some good reviews on Sunbeach hotel. Will welcome some useful tips/advice.
p.s Does anyone know what happened to Palm Grove? Heard that it will not be re-opening back as a hotel.
Thanx

well,Palm Grove is a little out of the way,Sunbeach is a great hotel in Cape Point area.Cape Point is relatively quiet and not a great deal to do outside the hotel.Kombo and the hotels in that area-Kotu are good but again a little isolated for night life, although beach is great. If you prefer night life Kololi area is best,Karaiba is a little expensive,Senegambia is on par with Sunbeach last I heard! So it depends what you are looking for.I have been going for many years but tend not to stay in hotels-I built a house there a few years back-Cape Point area. good luck, feel free to ask anything.

it all depends on what you want. To be in the centre of tourism, select Kololi. To have all facilities plus nice beaches, select Kotu. Bungalow Beach is a very nice hotel with self catering facilities and seperate bedroom, I like that!

But why not try the new areas like bijilo, unspoilt beaches.... and not far from Kololi, just 6 minutes by cab.

hi,
sorry this is a bit late for a reply.
the palm grove hotel will be closed for approx 2 years and will re-open as a conference center with some rooms available for conference guests, not holidaymakers.
we stayed there in april just before it closed down and it was full of doom and gloom about the closure.
alfie, the big pool lad was crying all the time over it.
as for the kombo, amfriend is there as we speak and when i get back to work i wii ask him and post his comments
