Luxor Acceptable taxi fare

Hi,
I am travelling to Luxor in a couple of days, and although I have checked various websites, I am still not sure what is an acceptable taxi fare for a 6 mile (approx 11km) ride. Can anyone help please? S

April 2008, I hired a cab for over 6 hours on the West Bank, across the Nile, to visit various sites like the Valley of the Kings. It was 70 Egyptians pounds, about $13 USD at the time. I hope that helps.

I also took the House carriages many times in Luxor and up to the Karnak temple. It was about 10 Egyptians pounds if I remember correctly.

Thanks, glad I could help. Cabs are not metered so you have to negotiate. The problem is knowing what a fair price is. The tourist office in Luxor told me what the West Bank price was.

Cabs are metered in Luxor, it's just that they are never turned on! If you can read arabic (I can't) there is usually a tariff on the windscreen. Failing that there used to be a big brass panel in the foyer of the New Winter Palace giving rates for local rides, I use that as a starting point. This may have changed, as I understand the the New Winter Palace is due for demolition - 4 stories higher than the original plans.
