Damascus Damascus: characteristic and affordable accommodation
Posted: Sun September 21, 2008 07:56 PM UTC
I have checked the VT hotel recommendations for Damascus looking for something along Moroccan riyads: traditional, clean and affordable. Boutique hotels for 200 dollars up are way out of my budget and I am not into the bland international chains. Does what I look for actually exist at all? I've googled but so far to no avail.

Please help me!

I don't think it does: far, far fewer traditional courtyard houses remained in Damascus for conversion and it was a much more costly enterprise than in Morocco, therefore the few there are are expensive boutique hotels (and/or they are aiming at a different market from Morocco anyway). Al-Haramein is the only budget option I've heard of with a bit of atmosphere, see http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Middle_East/Syria/Muhafazat_Dimashq/Damascus-1814868/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Damascus-MISC-BR-1.html.

cheaper boutique hotels maybe old vine or/alharamain in sarouja/or beit rumman in Bab touma
yr best bet is in Marje sqaure for clean budget hotels like al-muluk (the kings) or al-jalaa or al-faradees
also check the cheapest in 29 may street (al-majed hotel)..all these are not boutique hotels though
